City Hall Antwerp
In progress
The City Hall of Antwerp, dating from the 16th century, is currently being renovated by HUB architects and Origin architects . In collaboration with architect-designers Studio Lommer , I am designing the new carpets intended for the most prominent rooms. The renovated central staircase, the wedding hall, the large hallways and several meeting rooms will all contain new carpets and runners designed by us.

In the richly decorated rooms of the City Hall we aim for a modest though present role for the carpets with respect for the history of the building. A fresh and contemporary tone that becomes part of the symphony of materials and times. The designs are guided by the properties of the materials we work with as well as the techniques of knotting. The natural yarns and the knotting technique define the shine of the carpets, their height differences, roughness, depth and colour.
